Heavy cast bronze insignia with a tab on the back. Tab holds a set screw, which when tightened, holds the insignia on to the brass rod.
The Keeper was the man in charge of the Station or Lighthouse, chosen for his proven leadership, dedication, and perseverance. Many USLSS Keepers were in their 70’s and still able to command the surfboat.
Life Saving Service Keepers were chosen from the ranks of sea captains at first, and later chosen from the ranks of Surfmen at the various stations within a District.
