We are located on Cape Cod, where there were 13 US Life Saving Stations and where the US Coast Guard still carries out lifesaving duties from their stations in Provincetown, Chatham, Air Station Cape Cod at Otis Air National Guard Base, and the Canal Station in Sandwich.

An interesting place to visit is the Coast Guard Station in Chatham. They occupy the Chatham Lighthouse Keepers House and their primary boats are kept at the Chatham Fish Pier down the road. The last operational 44 footer, the CG44301 was retired at Station Chatham in May 2009 in a moving ceremony with Admiral Thad Allen in attendance. The station has the first 42 footers, the new CG42001 & CG42002. The latter are powered by two 500 HP Caterpillar engines, and are pretty impressive.

Tours of Chatham Light are given on Wednesday afternoons by the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Plug "25 Main Street, Chatham, MA 02633 " in to your GPS, and you'll find yourself in front of Chatham Light, over looking the Atlantic Ocean.

Photo at left center taken October, 2008 in front of the Chatham Light, inside the bar. The new CG42001, the then 62 year old CG36500, and the then 45 year old CG44301. Three self righting motor lifeboats, spanning the period from 1946 to 2009!

Top photo shows the restored motor lifeboat CG36500 underway. Richard, proprietor of this site, is now the Operations Manager for her.
